Fun outside!

It has finally warmed up a little and I have been able to get the boys outside.  They are just loving playing in the snow!  I kinda like them in their snow gear too because they can't run away from me too quick!  They had just been itching to go outside so badly.  I told them they had to wear their snow pants and the next thing I knew, Dylan was back in his closet trying to get down the snow pants hanging in their closet.  Not sure how he even knew they were back there.
They are really digging snow balls and watching them break when they land!  Then they got really into trying to make snow angels, which I thought was pretty darn cute.
Of course it didn't take them long to find the water!  They had an absolute blast jumping in the water, so I just let them.  They were soaked!

Tonight

Tonight the boys had been in bed for a while, then Keith thought he heard the closet doors close.  Then he heard a little knock on the door.  Keith opened the door, it was Dylan, he said "closed those," then went back to his bed!  What a goof!

In the words of Carter and Dylan...

The boys are always saying the funniest little things!

"Car TOONS"
Carter says this in the morning a lot

"Get, up, Get up Mommy"
Yep, my alarm clocks that drag me out of bed

"Hungy,  Breakfast"
I hear this one in the morning too!  Usually followed by a get up!  I wish I had Dylan's morning energy, Carter would usually rather just relax with some ccartoons.
"Cover up"
Carter and I like to sit in the big chair with a blanket and he sits next me and will say "cover up"

"Big hug"
Lately every night when we tuck the boys into bed, both have to get back up from under their blankets and give me a huge hug.  Dylan always says "big hug, big hug" and then he gives me a big kiss and a huge hug and squeezes really tight.

"I'm Sick"
Carter randomly says this.  Then if you ask him if he's OK, he will talk in this mopey sad voice.  He does this when he "needs" a band aid too.

"buy more"
We hear this about 10x a day!

"big chair"
They love to sit in the big chair and read books

"my turn"
This never really ends well

"go Vikings"
This almost always happens at a random time.
"mom"
Funny, Dylan usually says "mommy" and lately Carter is always saying "mom, mom, mom"

Keeping Busy

Trying to work on doing more activities with the boys!  It seems most activities only last 10-15 minutes and they are on to something else.  These fish were fun for a while, then they pulled off most the squares.
The snow was a big hit!  Poor boys have basically been stuck inside all January since it has been so cold.  They wanted to play with the snow so badly that I finally just brought some in.  SUCCESS!  They had a blast.  They just love the snow,  they have to step in it about every time we go out and Dylan tries to eat about every piece he sees.  So far, no yellow!
This was a fun game, I would tell them to put their hand, foot or jump on the color/shape.  They thought this was pretty fun for a while and it was a really easy one.  They liked taping them to the floor as well!
Sometimes I mistake that pair of black boots for Stella, is that bad????

GO STATE!

We finally got the boys to their first ISU basketball game!  We got my dad tickets for Christmas and were so excited to join them since it was our first game in about 6 years.
They did pretty well, but we did leave early.  It was funny walking Carter in, we had to make about 20 stops before getting to our seats.  He wanted to stop at the concession stand, the bathrooms, the water fountains, the hand sanitizer, you name it, we had to stop!  Guess they don't get out much.  Keith and I were pretty exhausted by the end of the game and decided we probably won't bring the boys back until next year!

We had a busy weekend

I LOVE the weekends!
Keith was home all day on Friday and was so kind to let me leave all day as well!  I had a meeting in Des Moines on Friday about some job opportunities and then went to Ankeny to meet with a lady about possibly building.  That evening we went to the Big Steer (yes I'm back in Iowa and enjoyed a great steak) with my family and I ate more than plenty!  I've yet to meet a mozzarella stick that competes with the ones at the Big Steer!  Afterwards, Mom, Dad and I made a late night at Prairie Meadows.  No big wins, but more importantly, no big losses.
Saturday Sarah and Adam watched the boys for us so we could make a few returns at the mall.  This was GREAT because they boys have not been doing so great in their strollers. Thanks again guys, we owe you!  We stayed in on Saturday, which was nice.
Sunday we did some open-housing and later that night we took the boys to my friend, Nicole's parents' new house.  They have just started remodeling, so the boys had a blast running around, exploring and playing with their huge dog Sailor. The next day mom asked the boys if they had fun and the first thing they said was "big dog, big dog,"  they totally remembered him!  We are excited to go back after the renovations for some fun parties!

The boys are really into looking for squirrels, they bring their chairs over sometimes!

Tote Bags Personalized

I gave up lugging around the diaper bag sometime ago and we have been using the little kid Pottery Barn backpacks.  But the downside to those are we can't seem to fit all our stuff in it!  I just got this huge monogrammed tote bag from Simply - Bags and look at all the stuff I can fit into it!  We've been bringing it everywhere.

This made me laugh....

This has been floating around Facebook, but I especially got a kick out of this.  I especially like #6 of lesson 8.

Lesson 1

1. Go to the grocery store.
2. Arrange to have your salary paid directly to their head office.
3. Go home.
4. Pick up the paper.
5. Read it for the last time.

Lesson 2
Before you finally go ahead and have children, find a couple who already are parents and berate them about their...
1. Methods of discipline.
2. Lack of patience.
3. Appallingly low tolerance levels.
4. Allowing their children to run wild.
5. Suggest ways in which they might improve their child's breastfeeding, sleep habits, toilet training, table manners, and overall behavior.

Enjoy it because it will be the last time in your life you will have all the answers.

Lesson 3
A really good way to discover how the nights might feel...

1. Get home from work and immediately begin walking around the living room from 5PM to 10PM carrying a wet bag weighing approximately 8-12 pounds, with a radio turned to static (or some other obnoxious sound) playing loudly. (Eat cold food with one hand for dinner)
2. At 10PM, put the bag gently down, set the alarm for midnight, and go to sleep.
3. Get up at 12 and walk around the living room again, with the bag, until 1AM.
4. Set the alarm for 3AM.
5. As you can't get back to sleep, get up at 2AM and make a drink and watch an infomercial.
6. Go to bed at 2:45AM.
7. Get up at 3AM when the alarm goes off.
8. Sing songs quietly in the dark until 4AM.
9. Get up. Make breakfast. Get ready for work and go to work (work hard and be productive)

Repeat steps 1-9 each night. Keep this up for 3-5 years. Look cheerful and together.

Lesson 4
Can you stand the mess children make? T o find out...
1. Smear peanut butter onto the sofa and jam onto the curtains.
2. Hide a piece of raw chicken behind the stereo and leave it there all summer.
3. Stick your fingers in the flower bed.
4. Then rub them on the clean walls.
5. Take your favorite book, photo album, etc. Wreck it.
6. Spill milk on your new pillows. Cover the stains with crayons. How does that look?

Lesson 5
Dressing small children is not as easy as it seems.

1. Buy an octopus and a small bag made out of loose mesh.
2. Attempt to put the octopus into the bag so that none of the arms hang out.

Time allowed for this - all morning.

Lesson 6
Forget the BMW and buy a mini-van. And don't think that you can leave it out in the driveway spotless and shining. Family cars don't look like that.

1. Buy a chocolate ice cream cone and put it in the glove compartment.

Leave it there.

2. Get a dime. Stick it in the CD player.
3. Take a family size package of chocolate cookies. Mash them into the back seat. Sprinkle cheerios all over the floor, then smash them with your foot.
4. Run a garden rake along both sides of the car.

Lesson 7

Go to the local grocery store. Take with you the closest thing you can find to a pre-school child. (A full-grown goat is an excellent choice). If you intend to have more than one child, then definitely take more than one goat. Buy your week's groceries without letting the goats out of your sight. Pay for everything the goat eats or destroys. Until you can easily accomplish this, do not even contemplate having children.

Lesson 8
1. Hollow out a melon.
2. Make a small hole in the side.
3. Suspend it from the ceiling and swing it from side to side.
4. Now get a bowl of soggy Cheerios and attempt to spoon them into the swaying melon by pretending to be an airplane.
5. Continue until half the Cheerios are gone.
6. Tip half into your lap. The other half, just throw up in the air.

You are now ready to feed a nine- month-old baby.

Lesson 9
Learn the names of every character from Sesame Street , Barney, Disney, the Teletubbies, and Pokemon. Watch nothing else on TV but PBS, the Disney channel or Noggin for at least five years. (I know, you're thinking What's 'Noggin'?) Exactly the point.

Lesson 10

Make a recording of Fran Drescher saying 'mommy' repeatedly. (Important: no more than a four second delay between each 'mommy'; occasional crescendo to the level of a supersonic jet is required). Play this tape in your car everywhere you go for the next four years. You are now ready to take a long trip with a toddler.

Lesson 11
Start talking to an adult of your choice. Have someone else continually tug on your skirt hem, shirt- sleeve, or elbow while playing the 'mommy' tape made from Lesson 10 above. You are now ready to have a conversation with an adult while there is a child in the room.

"Coffee Time"

Well, the boys are really into coffee time.  Dylan is so much about order, if he sees me with a coffee cup, he runs and gets a spoon to stir it.  Sometimes he orders me to sit on the couch.  And lately, he has to be the one making it!  We'll see tomorrow, but I think he has most the steps down.  I dump the water in, he takes out the old packet, puts in the new, closes the lid and pushes the buttons.  Then gets me a spoon of course!

So I have been warming up milk and putting in a mug for them and yesterday Carter got so excited and just started yelling "coffee time, coffee time" and got his spoon and got in the chair.
Such silly little guys!  Looks like they must have had a rough night.  Actually I think this was the morning Keith got back, I'm sure we all looked like that after a LONG week!

Nice little Monday

We had a pretty good Monday.  By 11:30 we built and played in a pretty sweet fort, I gave Stella a lovely get-us-by-for a couple of days haircut, a phone interview, got the boys dressed and ran around like Super Heroes!!!
My sister was home today so we went to her house for a few hours so the boys could play with Cade and all his super fun toys.  Then I played a little vball for the first time in about three years, so that was fun.  I'm plenty rusty, but it was fun to play.  Now I am trying to do some overdue blogging. I have lots of things I have been wanting to blog about, but just need to sit down at the computer!
